Our Instructor
Patrick Powers
I am a passionate, holistic fitness professional and martial arts instructor.
Engrossed with wrestling, Karate, Jeet Kune Do, Judo, and Jiu-jitsu in my youth, my life took a turn when I sustained a significant injury which prevented me from practicing martial arts.
I spent two years in rehabilitation with a well-respected physiotherapist who both healed my injury without surgery and returned me to training and changed my perspective on healing the human body. It piqued my interest in physical rehabilitation, and motivated me to start my education process.
I soon found the CHEK Institute, where I was trained as a corrective exercise specialist and a sports performance coach.
â—¦ The CHEK Institute applies physical therapy and osteopathic principles to physical fitness. We focus on anatomically-correct body mechanics and breathing patterns.
These invaluable concepts changed the game in my practice, especially in the treatment of chronic back pain.
My hunger for knowledge and performance led me to complete the USA Olympic Weightlifting Coach’s Certification. In my most recent training at the UFC Performance Institute, under FRC (Functional Range Conditioning) I achieved Certified Mobility Specialist. Both of these training modalities are centered around principles of injury mitigation and sports performance.
A key piece of the puzzle is nutrition. Our diet fuels our activities and can accelerate or detract from the healing process. I attended the Mike Dolce certified nutrition coaches program. We specialize in healthy weight loss without drugs or stimulant supplements.
â—¦ Mike Dolce is world-renowned for MMA and wrestling weight-loss strategies. He has an impeccable track-record in professional sports.
I also enjoy coaching youth and adult sports including Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling. This has led me to complete the USA Wrestling Coaches Certification. I achieved a purple belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Scott Burr in 2021.
â—¦ Scott is a 3rd degree black belt under Rickson Gracie as well as a Kodokan Judo black belt. You can learn more about my Professor Scott at: https://www.enclavejiujitsu.com/about.html
In 2021 and 2022 I served as the lead strength and conditioning coach for the Simpson University Women's Wrestling Team and the Shasta College Men's Wrestling Team in Redding, California under esteemed Head Coach Erin Razo.
° This rewarding experience gave me the opportunity to apply the principles and methods I was taught throughout my education. This allowed me to gather real time feedback of the needs and possibilities of high-performing athletes. I have hence witnessed the application of these methodologies successfully contribute to injury mitigation and capability enhancement in a wide range of anatomical variations.
I have also since achieved my Gracie Survival Tactics Instructor Certification, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification, which assist greatly in my work in providing emergency response, protection, and education to my community.
° Gracie Survival Tactics (GST) is a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu curriculum specifically adapted to the needs of law enforcement and security officers. It has been rigorously field-tested and California POST-Certified. I am proud to represent the Gracie family as a certified instructor.
